I recently signed up at an acrobatics&dance school here in Athens. I had heard about this school a few years ago, and I have a number of students that take classes there. It was something I’ve been wanting to try for a while, so, finally, here I am.
It’s cool, and I get to learn cool tricks. But that is not what this post is about.
Soon after signing up, i found about a contortion workshop they were offering. NO, I did not join that one. Let’s be realistic here. In case you’re not familiar with the term “contortion”, it refers to a performance art done by participants with extreme body flexibility. You know, people bringing their feet over their shoulders and ever-so-smoothly smoking a cigarette tucked between their toes. Yes, that!
This is an art form that I admire immensely and I jumped on the opportunity to check out the workshop as an observer. In return, I offered to take some photos of the students during the workshop and some of the poses were truly remarkable.
The workshop itself culminated to a studio photoshoot, which I also attended, and I got to snap some pics over there as well.
This is a small sample of what they were up to during class…
And these are some of the shots I took at the studio ( I got there late, so only managed to snap pics of 2-3 attendees). You can see the horror theme right off the bat.
I saw it in the exercise process, I saw it in the studio… I still don’t know how the hell they do that!
