Back to the United States of AppallingFood
I just got back to the US after an absence of more than five months. Having had such an extensive detox period in Greece of all things USAmerican, and returning now with already acquired knowledge of what this country is about, the shock is even bigger now than when I was first discovering it all in the first place.
I penetrated the country via Atlanta airport and within minutes of going past immigration control I already felt surrounded by endless consumerism, remarkable obesity and horrible food options. You can’t go 50 feet without coming across some sort of vending spot, be it a store or a machine.
Hit the button and you can buy anything from a can of coke to an iPad. Hell, if they could fit it in there, they would sell you cars there and then.
All typical fast food restaurants are making their presence known by violating my nose with their greasy, fried food and artificial vegetables. After all these months in Greece, I got used to tempting food smells, not odors that make me cringe. The entire atmosphere just feels unhealthy.
I’m dreading what I’ll be eating here. I got spoiled. It’ll take me a while to get used to it all. But then again…
P.S.: Don’t get me wrong, I am definitely looking forward to some of the burgers/tacos/cupcakes I will enjoy in moderation!
